The Property Council has provided a submission in response to the consultation documents produced in relation to the Brisbane City Council design strategy.
Public consultation has recently been held on Design-led City – a design strategy for Brisbane and the draft New World City design guide – Subtropical homes for a Brisbane lifestyle.
The Design-Lead City document sets out the draft priorities and design values for development and infrastructure projects, and outlined potential strategies to support, regulate and reward the implantation of these characteristics in Brisbane projects. The Property Council has broadly supported the development of a design strategy for the city through its submission.
The draft New World City design guide – Subtropical homes for a Brisbane lifestyle provides advice and support to encourage quality design of townhouses and apartments up to five storeys. While supporting the design principles, the Property Council noted that each development site is unique and will have different challenges and opportunities that will require a range of design outcomes and trade-offs.
The Property Council has recommended that Council maintain this document as a design guide, rather than a statutory document, and encourage take up by providing a fast track assessment process for those who seek to incorporate the principles promoted through the guide.
Brisbane City Council will be reviewing responses to the consultation documents and seeking to finalise the strategy and design guide later in 2019.
