Last week we were delighted to be a judge for the Griffith Innovation Challenge, assessing the best of pitches to form their passions into commercial ventures.
Assessing the 3 groups, it was a tough call but the successful winners were able to clearly articulate their product, present clear data around the problem, display their capacity to source materials and had given detailed thought to the process in acquiring goods to manufacture & distribute! Quite phenomenal for a group of both under grad and post grad students.
What was noticeably the best take away from this event was the acceptance of entrepreneurship and the university’s desire to foster these skills within the students. Both maximising their train of thought and preparing them for the world of dealing with capital venture groups down the line.
A fantastic initiative with the finalists outlined below. Well done to all students who participated and welcome to your first test in commercialising your passions!
Envirofil – Hannah, Makoto and Jordan
At Envirofil, we create 3D printing filament made entirely from recycled plastic waste; a combination of sustainability and technology advancements. As a company, we wanted to address the global plastic pollution problems, by creating a product that up-cycles and utilizes all the plastic waste that is currently being thrown into landfills and the ocean. By combining this goal with the boom of 3D printing (an already sustainable manufacturing method), Envirofil aims to bring to the market an eco-effective and high-quality filament. Our main objective at Envirofil is to make a positive impact in the world, and aid in the plastic clean up movement by creating a resourceful product. Through the business, plastic waste can be recycled into 3D printing filament for personal and business use, rather than being tossed into the environment or garbage and polluting the Earth.

We are a passionate young team of innovators looking to shake up the fishing industry with our computer science and technology skills. Our goal is to create a high quality and cost-effective 3D printed fishing lure that does not tarnish the environment. On top of this, we would like to enhance the novice Fisherman’s journey with a suite of guides, deals and social interaction.
Re-Verse – Miranda, Ben and Jessica
Re-Verse is a business aiming to sell sustainable products to corporations as promotional material. Our service will provide the opportunity for companies to place their logo on Re-Verse’s products and utilise it for promoting their brand. The primary product featured by R e-Verse is the basic kit including a collapsible bowl, a lid, and utensils. Re-Verse has additional products that will be added to the product line as the business grows. The development of the product was derived from an attempt to reduce high consumption of single-use plastic by providing a convenient alternative to storing and carrying around food.
