Do you have the balls?
The majority of women within construction and development industries actually own their own business!
So, whilst we step into a field that we are significantly outnumbered by, we also have made the strong decision to stand up and lead in this sector. So, is the question still – do you have the balls? Because apparently, we don’t need to!
Take a peek into the life of running a company in this field … and perhaps you will know why we are building a community that feels like ‘home’.
You’ll be scared many of the days, especially in the beginning. In time you will get stronger but don’t expect fear to leave your side, you just make friends with it.
You will walk into many board rooms and be outnumbered by 70 year old men, have no financial backing other than your own, no family in business, no husband to lean on, and suddenly you find yourself as the minority amongst a hell of a lot of men!
Did you know the majority of women within this sector actually own their own business?
So be prepared for the shit fight, the endless insurances and people that can’t manage their business well enough to pay you! Are you sure you still have what it takes as well as the additional 20% required in legal fees?
When people look to you for guidance, pay you for advice and you too are dancing in what often seems like an unregulated sector with an endless amount of cowboys!
Do you still have what it takes?
When the world falls on your shoulders and the executive beside you says “I know your pain”. Do you really?
Because unless you’ve taken a leap of faith like starting a business, jumping into an ocean whereby you could equally break your neck or become a champion swimmer, I don’t know that you really do
So now, just now, you might understand my motivation in founding the @top_100_women for women in this sector.
Not many people can appreciate the lonely and never-ending path of an entrepreneur as very few have the balls to walk it.
But perhaps in observing, just maybe, you might!
Perhaps in watching the rocky road we have had to walk among senior women within this sector, you will begin to appreciate just how appealing hairdressing has seemed at times.
But we are setting out to change it! We are setting out for this to be a welcoming sector for women and girls to join.
As one woman stands up, so too does another girl watching her, and soon, it will be known that the shit we have had to put up with is, and will change, for the generations to come.
