What do you enjoy the most about working in the field of construction and development?
I’m in a great position where I have worked in local Councils, so I have an understanding and knowledge of exactly what is required to ensure the site is environmentally compliant. And I secretly love legislation. And meeting people. And I love the early morning starts. Best time of the day.
Where do you see your life in the next 5 years, what possibilities are ahead of you?
I have been diversifying across multiple disciplines within the environmental space in construction. I provide a service that connects construction processes with environmental sustainability (they don’t have to be in constant conflict). This year I have been presenting PFAS information sessions; undertaking large water quality projects; and working with amazing people with Virtual Reality as an education tool on construction sites. If I continue to seek out opportunities and have the courage to commit the possibilities are endless. Now that’s exciting.
If you could write a letter to a 13-year-old ‘you’, what would you say?
My dad had some cracking sayings “don’t plant a feather and assume a chicken will grow” and “don’t doubt yourself, doubt your surroundings”. He died when I was young. I would tell myself to write down all of Dad’s sayings because they would come in handy in my pocket today. Although, the only two I remember have served me well so far.
What are the 3 skills you have developed to get to where you are at present?
- Write the email: send the email and have no regrets.
- Drive: get excited about the day.
- Collaborate: everyone has strengths. Diversity is an asset.
