What do you enjoy the most, working in the field of construction & development?
I enjoy working in the construction industry because I can apply my research results to help companies improve their work safety and effectiveness.
Where do you see your life in the next 5 years, what possibilities are ahead of you?
In the next five years, I would like to see myself as a leading researcher in my research team and be able to pass my knowledge on to students. I would also like to be a voice in construction communities all over the world to facilitate better communication among academia and the construction industry.
I can see many possibilities ahead of me as the construction market in Australia will continue to experience industry growth. Each year, there are many people who are committed to joining this industry, so there are lots of projects that could be studied. There are many first-year students who enrol into this major at universities, so there are many possibilities to design units/courses to pass the knowledge onto them. Also, based on my previous work experience in Hong Kong and the US, I have an excellent network to help me conduct research on international projects with new connections I make in Australia.
If you could write a letter to a 13-year-old ‘you’ what would you say?
I would say to keep positive no matter what happens to you. Difficulties will only be temporary, hang in there, keep hope in your heart, and you will get through them soon. From this, you will realise that you are stronger.
What are 3 skills you have had to develop to get to where you are presently?
- Keep an open mind
- Be honest to friends and colleagues
- Be patient
