What do you enjoy the most, working in the field of Construction & Development?
I enjoy seeing how forethought and skilfully engineered solutions, whether it be deal origination or the vision for unlocking and reimagining a site, can position an asset so that it stands the test of time. It’s interesting to see how construction and development can influence amenity for tenants, even as occupancy trends evolve.
Our construction and development strategy continues to be an interesting part of the business to work in. It requires an understanding and insight beyond just numbers but, with a disciplined approach, can delivering great value to investors and clients.
Where do you see life in the next 5 years, what possibilities are ahead of you?
I’m focussed on maximising the learning and opportunity this industry offers.
The built environment will continue to be impacted by technology and innovation; changes in regulatory framework and due to increases in the availability of capital. It will need to draw from and engage with, diverse groups of contributors who look at risk and opportunity in different ways. This keeps me excited about the future.
If you could write a letter to a 13-year-old ‘you’ what would you say?
Most of the cards in your deck are advantages. Be grateful before anything else.
Keep long term friendships through the different phases of your life and career. It is worth the work to maintain them and the grace for each other that’s required when life shifts. These people are your cheerleaders, provide accountability when you lose focus and demonstrate the many ways that success and happiness can look.
What are 3 skills you have had to develop to get to where you are presently?
- Patience. All good things take time.
- The ability to simplify the complicated.
- Collaboration. Don’t dismiss the value that other teams can add.
