What do you enjoy the most, working in the field of Construction & Development?
I enjoy the people I work with as well as the diversity the construction industry presents. Being at a company such as John Holland has allowed me to work on various projects from large scale infrastructure, building, rail and water projects. No day is the same and being in a deadline driven role there is a really strong sense of teamwork within the team.
Where do you see life in the next 5 years, what possibilities are ahead of you?
The construction industry has been taking some significant steps towards diversity so it is an excellent time to build a career as a woman in the construction industry. John Holland encourages multi-skilling so the flexibility is available to pursue a variety of streams however I do see myself remaining in the Pre-Contracts / Submissions space.
If you could write a letter to a 13-year-old ‘you’ what would you say?
Put yourself out of your comfort zone as I have found that is often where the opportunities lie.
What are 3 skills you have had to develop to get to where you are presently?
- Delegation – as I have gained experience and led submissions I have realised the importance of entrusting colleagues to get the job done.
- Attention to detail – Given the size of the projects we work on there is no room for errors.
- Teamwork – nothing can be achieved without a strong team. We draw various skill sets to complete our tasks such as writers, graphic designers, project managers, architects etc so it is important that we are all in sync.
