I became a member of Top 100 Women because I wanted to surround myself with like-minded women that are all wanting to make a difference in the construction industry. As a female in this industry, I feel I have needed to work harder to prove my capabilities in order to gain the recognition and respect that any industry professional deserves. However, I do see this as an opportunity to showcase my skills and to carve a pathway for other women in the industry. Every little bit we do as women in the building and construction industry helps support the recognition of other women in the industry or those thinking of entering it.
I am currently working as the first female building inspector in South Australia, at House Inspect Australia. My career path in the construction industry is a fairly new one, but one that I have been passionate about for most of my life. I was born on the Greek island of Samos, where I spent most of my teen years surrounded by ageless architectural beauty.
I moved back to Adelaide in 2001, to work and study a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Management Marketing at the University of South Australia. My post university career began as a public servant, climbing the corporate ladder and being promoted to Assistant Director in the Federal Government. This meant I had achieved my career goal 10 years earlier than I expected!
However, I did not feel professionally fulfilled. That is when I took a leap of faith and joined my husband in the building inspection industry, as the first female building inspector in South Australia! I have now completed my building, construction and project management qualifications and go to work every day living my dream. This is why I try to inspire others to follow their dreams, which is important to me not only as a professional but also as a mum wanting to inspire my two children.
