I became a member of Top 100 Women because I was intrigued by the founder Tamika Smith and her ambition to create this amazing platform for women in the construction industry. Growing up in Scandinavia, I was taught early in life that men and women are equals. However, since choosing my career path in the building industry, I realised that this was not the case in every area of life, especially not in all parts of the world. I hope that we as women can empower each other and that together we can become more respected, considered for our expertise, and not devalued because of our gender.
I’m currently working as a Design and Compliance Coordinator at Backspace Living, a residential building company in the Northern Rivers, NSW. I manage the design process and focus on delivering sustainable and functional homes. I lead our projects from brief, throughout the spatial planning and the interior and exterior selections, to the finalising of plans where I oversee the regulatory requirements for the approvals.
In addition to my passion for creating well-designed homes, I have a strong connection to nature, especially the ocean. I’m an adventurous and active woman who spends most of my time in male-dominated surf line-ups. For me, surfing is both a physical and mental exercise and is what keeps me focused and balanced during long work weeks.
